Soyatech Announces "Soya & Oilseed Summit 2007: Nourishing Innovations in Food and Energy" (2.12.2007)

BAR HARBOR, ME, – Soyatech announced today that it will host "Soya & Oilseed Summit 2007: Nourishing Innovations in Food and Energy,” November 11-13, 2007 at the InterContinental Hotel in Chicago. The conference will build on the success of Soya Summit 2006, bringing together leaders from the food and energy industries to explore key issues and opportunities emerging in the rapidly changing global marketplace for food and fuel.

Soya & Oilseed Summit 2007 is designed to facilitate top-level exchange of information that will support both industries’ continued rapid and profitable development at a time when both are competing for similar resources. Presented in parallel food and energy tracks, Soya & Oilseed Summit 2007 will also include joint forums to further the dialogue between both sides of this complex equation. Program topics will include the competition for commodities, potential in modified seed traits for food and energy applications, feedstocks for food and energy, and government policy vis-a-vis biofuels. Sessions will explore trans fat solutions and advances in soyfoods processing.

“Escalating interest in biofuels is already affecting the food industry. We have seen higher corn prices as crops are being diverted into alternative fuel production. This trend could set off unforeseen worldwide economic fluctuations, even more so if the biofuels production rate were to increase in an effort to achieve the goals outlined by President Bush in his State of the Union Address,” said Soyatech president and founder Peter Golbitz, widely recognized as the one of the world’s foremost experts on the soybean and oilseed industry.

Attendees at Soya & Oilseed Summit 2007 are expected to include executives from the food and beverage industry, government agencies, the automotive and oil industries, biodiesel and ethanol manufacturers and distributors, private equity investors, hedge fund managers, and leaders in science and technology. Companies participating in Soya Summit 2006 included Bunge, Cargill, Solae, Doane, Syngenta, Qualisoy, Nutriant, Monsanto, DeSmet, Insta-Pro, National Biodiesel Board, SunOpta, USSEC, Staeta, Mitsui, Rabobank, Alpro, Monsanto, CoBank, Kroger, Mitsubishi, Eastman Chemical Co., AarhusKarlshamn, CHS Oilseed, Kikkoman, Sunrise Soya, Petrobras and Coca Cola.
