Industry experts examine the vital role of women in agribusiness at Women in Ag Summit Europe

BARCELONA – Lessons in balanced leadership, positioning oneself for success and capitalizing on distinct skills are among the critical messages to be delivered by a diverse group of accomplished speakers at the inaugural Women in Agribusiness Summit Europe, which will take place in Barcelona, 10-12 February 2015 at The Hotel Arts.

Michèle Mees, author of The Balanced Leader and co-founder of The Centre for Balanced Leadership, will deliver the keynote address. Mees uses her master in sociology and communications sciences and MBA in her work guiding CEOs, management teams and audiences abroad to create balanced organizational cultures by balancing masculine and feminine energies and qualities in company leadership. This, says Mees, results in better performing teams, happier employees, stronger customer relations, more innovation and creativity and a more sustainable, respectful way of doing business.

Mees will present “Balanced Leadership: Rewriting the Rulebook” on the opening day of the Summit – Wednesday, February 11 – and explain why gender-diverse companies out-perform non-balanced competitors, and arm attendees with tools to contribute to changing corporate culture and strengthening the agribusiness industry.

On day two of the Summit, Mella Frewan, director general of FoodDrinkEurope, will speak on The Changing Food Consumer: The Role of Agribusiness in Meeting the Demands of Today’s End User. This session will address:

• How the latest consumer food trends are influencing the agribusiness sector
• How agribusinesses are impacted by consumer food trends
• How agribusinesses can ensure their products stay relevant to end-user demands

Frewan’s vast experience, including roles as director for government affairs, Europe, Middle East & Africa, for Monsanto, and director of International Relations for Cerestar, will bring extremely valuable and relevant perspective to the discussion. Frewan also brings current experience as a member of the EU Commission’s High Level Steering Board for the European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability, and as vice president of the OECD’s Advisory Group for responsible business conduct along agricultural supply chains.

In addition, previously Frewen had been the food industry member on several of the EU Commission’s ag-related committees.

Other top industry speakers presenting at the inaugural Women in Agribusiness Summit Europe include:

Michele Fite, president for Protein Solutions at DuPont Nutrition & Health
Ioana Tudor, head of diverse field crops at Syngenta Crop Protection AG
Jaine Chisholm Caunt, deputy director general of The Grain and Feed Trade Association (GAFTA)
Talei Herbert, head of strategy and business services for EMEA, Dow AgroSciences

The day-and-a-half Summit will cater to women across the agribusiness value chain with top tier industry content, professional development skills and strategy workshops, and unparalleled opportunities to network and establish new business relationships.
