HighQuest Partners’ Subsidiary Soyatech LLC announces USDA Chief Economist to Speak at "Soya & Oilseed Summit 2008" Conference in St. Louis

BAR HARBOR, ME, June 9, 2008 – Soyatech announced today that Joseph W. Glauber, Chief Economist at the Department of Agriculture (USDA), will speak at the upcoming Soya & Oilseed Summit 2008.  Dr. Glauber will present a session entitled “The North American Market for Soybeans and Oilseeds Through 2010" at the conference, which takes place in St. Louis, Missouri on September 17-19 at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel.  He joins a growing list of high profile speakers for the event that includes Peter Goldsmith, Executive Director of the National Soybean Research Laboratory, Anne Frick of Prudential-Bache Securities, and David Dzisiak of Dow AgroSciences.
“The Soya and Oilseed Summit 2008 offers a timely and urgent agenda as global competition for agricultural resources continues to intensify on a daily basis.  We are pleased that Dr. Glauber, with his vast knowledge of this dynamic marketplace, will join us to share his perspective with attendees,” said Philippe de Lapérouse, Director of the Global Food and Agribusiness Practice for HighQuest Partners, Soyatech’s parent company.

As the USDA’s Chief Economist, Dr. Glauber is responsible for the Department's agricultural forecasts and projections and for advising the US Secretary of Agriculture on economic implications of alternative programs, regulations and legislative proposals.  He is responsible for the Office of the Chief Economist, the World Agricultural Outlook Board, the Office of Risk Assessment and Cost-Benefit analysis, the Global Change Program Office and the Office of Energy Policy and New Uses.

From 1992 to 2007, Dr. Glauber served as Deputy Chief Economist at the USDA.  In 2007, he was named the Special Doha Agricultural Envoy at the office of the U.S. Trade Representative and continues to serve as chief agricultural negotiator in the Doha talks.  In addition to his work in the Doha negotiations, he served as economic adviser at the so-called Blair House agreements leading to the completion of the Uruguay Round negotiations.  He is the author of numerous studies on crop insurance, disaster policy and U.S. farm policy and has served as senior staff economist for agriculture, natural resources and trade at the President's Council of Economic Advisers and as an economist at the Economic Research Service, USDA.

The third annual event in the Soya & Oilseed Summit series, Soya and Oilseed Summit 2008 will explore practical strategies for addressing the challenges and opportunities that arise as global competition for agricultural resources continues to escalate.  Summit topics will include a global forecast of edible oil supply and demand, the implications of parallel movement in petroleum and commodity prices on the bottom line of food processors and renewable fuel manufacturers, the realities of developing sustainable soybean and oilseed production worldwide, and how shifting demand and governmental policies are shaping new investments and infrastructure development in the global soybean and oilseed sectors.
