CE-YO of Stonyfield Farm is Keynote Speaker at Soyatech’s Soyfoods 2009 Conference

Bar Harbor, ME -- Dec. 9, 2008 – Soyatech, LLC, the global media, marketing, and event platform for the food, oilseed and agribusiness industries, today announced that Gary Hirshberg, President and CE-Yo of Stonyfield Farm, will deliver the keynote address at Soyfoods2009: Nourishing Innovation. The conference will take place on March 3, 2009 at the Anaheim Hilton. It is being held in conjunction with the Nutracon Conference and SupplyExpo, which are produced by New Hope Natural Media and take place March 4-8.
The author of Stirring it Up: How to Make Money and Save the World, Mr. Hirshberg will speak about “Authenticity: The Most Important Ingredient in Healthful Foods." The world's leading organic yogurt company, Stonyfield Farm advocates that healthy food can only come from a healthy planet. In addition to using only organic ingredients, Stonyfield offsets all of the C02 emissions generated from its facility energy use to help reduce global warming. The company also started a nonprofit called Climate Counts that shows people how they can help fight climate change by the way they shop and invest. In addition, Stonyfield donates 10% of its profits to efforts that help protect and restore the Earth.

Hirshberg has won numerous awards for corporate and environmental leadership including the 1999 Global Green USA's Green Cross Millennium Award (inspired by Mikhail S. Gorbachev) for Corporate Environmental Leadership. Gary was named "Business Leader of the Year" by Business NH Magazine and "New Hampshire's 1998 Small Business Person of the Year" by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

He served as director of the Rural Education Center, the small organic farming school from which Stonyfield was spawned. Before that, he was executive director of The New Alchemy Institute, an ecological institute devoted to organic agriculture, aquaculture and renewable energy systems. Earlier in his career, he was a water-pumping windmill specialist, an author, an environmental education specialist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and a manager of environmental tours to the People's Republic of China.

Hirshberg has received six honorary doctorates and serves on several corporate and non-profit boards including those of Homegrown Naturals, Honest Tea and O'Naturals, a new chain of natural fast food restaurants that he co-founded. He co-chaired The Social Venture Network for five years and is the founder of the Social Venture Institute, a "boot camp" for community-minded entrepreneurs.

Soyfoods2009 will focus on fostering innovation and new growth in the production and marketing of soy-based and other healthful foods. The program is designed for soyfoods manufacturers and marketers; manufacturers of healthful food ingredients; nutritionists and dieticians; retail food buyers; healthful foods’ manufacturers and marketers; and food processing equipment manufacturers.
