Ag Production, Transportation Conferences Highlight Industry Growth Trends, Paths to Sustainability

Press Release -- SOUTHWEST HARBOR, ME: November 6, 2009 – The fourth annual Soya & Oilseed Summit and second annual Global Soybean & Grain Transport conferences brought industry leaders together to New Orleans, Louisiana, to address new business strategies and opportunities, global commodity, transportation and consumer trends and technological advances for the world soybean, grain and oilseed industry.
The keynote address “The Role of Brazilian Agriculture in Promoting Sustainability” was delivered on Thursday, November 3 by Blairo Maggi, governor of Mato Grosso state in Brazil and CEO of one of the world’s largest agricultural production firms, Grupo Andre Maggi. In his remarks, Governor Maggi highlighted steps his administration has taken to halt the previous, runaway destruction of the Amazon, including instituting some of the world’s most stringent land development restrictions for farmers. Governor Maggi indicated a determination to continue safeguarding the environment while allowing agricultural production to meet world demand.
Other key themes addressed at the two co-located conferences included:
·       world forecast for edible oils and meals supply and demand;
·       strategies for business development in agricultural production, trade development  and international shipping as the world economy begins emerging from the economic downturn;
·       new trends in the application of new technologies for seed, ingredient, food and biofuels production;
·       prospects for multilateral agricultural sustainability initiatives;
·       developments in international food and animal feed safety.
